Funny Questions to Ask a Girl That Are Actually Funny

Most "funny questions" lists are riddles wearing a party hat. The ones that actually get a laugh have one thing in common: they're absurdly specific. "What's your favourite animal" gets you a word. "Which animal would you least like to fight" gets you a whole bit.

The rule: specific beats clever

You are not trying to be a comedian. You're trying to hand her a premise silly enough that the funny part is her answer. That's why the good ones are oddly detailed — the detail is what makes an answer possible. Compare:

  • ❌ "What's the funniest thing that's happened to you?" — nobody has this ready.
  • ✅ "What's the worst haircut you've ever paid for?" — everyone has this ready.

Three ways to kill the joke

  • Explaining it. If she doesn't bite, move on cheerfully. Unpacking a joke is how it dies.
  • Firing them off in a row. Funny questions are seasoning. Six in a row is a game show, and nobody asked to be a contestant.
  • Not answering your own. Half the fun is your version. If you ask about the worst haircut, you'd better have a worse one ready.

When to use them

Best early — they're the fastest way to get a conversation off the polite setting — and excellent as a reset when something has gone slightly flat or slightly too serious. If things are going well and you want to move somewhere warmer, the flirty questions guide picks up roughly where this leaves off, and the main questions list covers everything sorted by stage.
